Horizon Airways can conduct flight tests at their Mackay and Cloncurry bases. We have a RPLA and PPLA Flight Examiner on staff.
RPLA Flight Test
Length approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 1 hour 30 minutes general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 1 hour in the training area and approximately 30 minutes in the circuit area..
PPLA Flight Test
Length approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 2 hours 30 mintues navigation and general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 2 hours navigation and approximately 30 minutes general handling..
CPLA Flight Test
Length approximately 5 to 6 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 2 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 3 hour navigation (exercise conducted as a simulated charter flight) and general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes navigation and approximately 30 minutes general handling.

You will have a 1 hour 30 minutes general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 1 hour in the training area and approximately 30 minutes in the circuit area.
NVFR(A) Flight Test
Length approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 2 hours 30 minutes navigation and general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 2 hours navigation and approximately 30 minutes general handling.
IR(A) Flight Test
Length approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 2 hour navigation and general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 2 hour 30 minutes navigation and approximately 30 minutes general handling. The actual flight test time may vary depending on a number of factors including navigation aid availability, aircraft type flown, instrument endorsements being applied for etc.
PIR(A) Flight Test
Length approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards.
You will have a 2 hour navigation and general handling of the aircraft exercise consisting of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes navigation and approximately 30 minutes general handling. The actual flight test time may vary depending on a number of factors including navigation aid availability, aircraft type flown, flight planning authorisations being applied for etc.
FIR(A) Flight Test
Length approximately 5 to 6 hours.
Prior to your flight, an approximately 1 hour ground component where the examiner will assess your theory knowledge as per the Manual of Standards. You will then have a further 1 to 2 hours to complete long briefings and pre-flight briefings as prescribed by the flight examiner. The number of briefings to be completed will vary depending on the training endorsement(s) being applied for.
You will have a 1 hour 30 minutes general handling of the aircraft exercise, delivering training sequences as prescribed by the examiner. The actual flight test time may vary depending on the actual training endorsement being applied for.
